Carole King and Tina Turner both make history as only the second and third female artists to be inducted twice into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The 2021 class of inductees was announced on Wednesday, May 12, with the pair leading the line-up, which also includes Belinda Carlisle’s band The Go-Go’s and electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk.
It makes Carole and Tina the second and third female artists – following Stevie Nicks’ 2019 induction – to be recognised twice by the hall. Carole was inducted alongside ex husband Gerry Goffin for their songwriting in 1990, while Tina was recognised as a performer alongside former collaborator and ex-husband Ike Turner back in 1991.
Also included in the 2021 cohort of inductees are Foo Fighters, JAY-Z and Todd Rundgren in the ‘Performers’ category.
