For the first time ever, British artists occupy the entirety of the Top 10 on the annual UK Singles Chart.
Topping the rundown is Harry Styles with the lead single from his third album ‘Harry’s House’ (2022), As It Was, which dominated the charts internationally over the summer.
Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits comes in at No. 2, with his Fireboy DML collaboration Peru following at No. 3.
Harry also had 2022’s top selling album with ‘Harry’s House’, followed by Ed’s ‘=’ (2021).
Reacting to the all-Brit Top 10 – the first in the annual chart’s over-50-year history – BPI’s Leon Neville celebrated the result in an era when “streaming has created unprecedented competition from every corner of the globe”.
“This outstanding achievement is a testament to the rich music talent that continues to emerge from the UK’s nations, fuelled by the passion, investment and skills of UK record labels,” he added (via The Sun).
Brits streamed or bought 166.1 million albums last year, with streaming accounting for 86.1 per cent of the market and single track streams topping 150 billion for the first time.
Meanwhile, physical sales saw CDs hit 11.6 million units sold, with 5.5 million vinyl albums shifted – marking an increase for a 15th consecutive year.
