Sophie Ellis-Bextor has shared details of her forthcoming seventh album ‘HANA’, due this summer.
The pop superstar’s first studio album since 2016’s ‘Familia’ is preceded by lead track Breaking The Circle and is, according to Sophie, “inspired by a 2020 trip to japan, before the world tilted”.
“Its name means blossom,” she explains. “There are themes of optimism, new starts, adventures and reflections.”
‘HANA’ is out June 2 and available to pre-order now.

‘HANA’ is written and recorded in collaboration with Ed Harcourt, with whom the hitmaker worked on her previous LPs, ‘Wanderlust’ (2014) and ‘Familia’ (2016).
Speaking about the project in a social media post, Sophie previously shared details about the trip that inspired the LP alongside temporary artwork for the record, sharing: “This photo was taken in 2020, and it’s my eldest Sonny with my mum as we left Tokyo after a week away together. I’d only just started songwriting the new record with Ed Harcourt.
“This is our third record together after Wanderlust and Familia. The first songs written were really inspired by the upcoming trip to Japan. In the end, the album ended up being inspired by that trip and so much more. It took over two years to write and I can’t wait to share it with you.
“You’ll start to hear music soon enough.. but I can tell you there’s pop sensibilities woven throughout it and there’s definitely a lot of synthesisers,” she hinted, with Ed describing the sound as “kaleidoscopic joy”.
Following on from the huge success of her 2022 ‘Kitchen Disco Tour’, the Get Over You hitmaker will support the record with a run of shows throughout November and December 2023.
The tour, which kicks off in Bexhill, before heading all around the country including a date at the London Eventim Apollo, will feature hits from throughout Sophie’s career, along with a selection of festive classics.
Tickets for the ‘Christmas Kitchen Disco’ tour are on general sale now.
