Madonna has reportedly been discharged from the hospital after a “serious bacterial infection” forced her to delay her 40th anniversary ‘Celebration Tour’.
According to reports, the Queen of Pop is back at home in New York after seeking medical care at the weekend, resulting in an extended stay in the ICU.
A source told CNN: “She’s in the clear.” (via BBC)
While Madonna has yet to speak publicly about the situation, insiders have claimed the Material Girl hitmaker had been battling a low-grade fever for a month, which eventually caused her to collapse and need serious medical care.
She had been due to kick off her massive, 43-city world tour in the coming weeks, but the run has now been postponed while she recovers.
In a statement, her talent manager, Guy Oseary, said: “On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.
“At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
Set to take in cities with shows across North America and Europe, the ‘Celebration Tour’ is produced by Live Nation and, according to a press release, will take fans on Madonna’s artistic journey through four decades and pay respect to the city of New York where her career in music began.
“I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” she said when announcing the shows, which had been set to run through October in North America, before hitting Europe with a string of dates – including six stops at the O2, London.
Madonna was then set to return to the US in December for another run of live dates into the New Year. Bob the Drag Queen a.k.a. Caldwell Tidicue will guest across all dates on the global tour.
