A*Teens are back with their first-ever original Christmas single – ‘Merry Christmas To You’ arrives this Friday (November 6).
The group shared news of the single in an interview with Official Charts, revealing the track is written by the team that crafted their comeback single, Sweden’s 2026 Eurovision Song Contest entry ‘Iconic’.
Band member Dhani Lennevald shared: “When we decided that we were going to make new original songs, we said to our A&R, ‘If we’re going to do this, we have to go all the way, and we want to do a Christmas song.”
The group – also starring Marie Serneholt, Sara Lumholdt and Amit Paul – floated the idea with songwriter Thomas G:son at a Melodifestivalen afterparty, with the demo arriving in their inbox weeks later.
On hearing the track for the first time, Serneholt added: “The first 15, 20 seconds of the song, I’m like, ‘OK, we are onto something here’.
“It’s just so instant. It’s how it’s building up from the verses to the bridge to the instant chorus. That chorus gets stuck in your head right away.
“It has all the Christmas elements that you want to have, without it being too cheesy. It’s on the right side!”
