Blur and Gorillaz star Damon Albarn will release his second solo studio album ‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’ later this year.
The singer has signed with Transgressive Records for the release, due November 12, with its title inspired by the John Clare poem ‘Love and Memory’.
Originally intended as an orchestral piece inspired by the landscapes of Iceland, the LP saw the star return to the studio during lockdown and revisit the 11 tracks, which “explore themes of fragility, loss, emergence and rebirth,” according to a press release.
He says: “I have been on my own dark journey while making this record and it led me to believe that a pure source might still exist.”
‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’ will be available digitally along with a number of physical formats, including CD, Vinyl (in a variety of coloured editions) and Cassette. A limited edition 7” vinyl, featuring an exclusive track from the recording, is also available.
Damon debuted a set of songs from the album as part of the Glastonbury ‘Live At Worthy Farm’ event in May, and will perform two UK festival shows – in Manchester and Edinburgh – featuring tracks from the new album, plus his biggest hits, this summer.
‘The Nearer The Fountain, More Pure The Stream Flows’ is available to pre-order now.
