Coldplay spent 20 years trying to pen the perfect James Bond theme song but never quite hit the mark.
According to Chris Martin, the group worked on five songs over two decades in an attempt to land a coveted spot in the soundtrack to the franchise, but ultimately their efforts weren’t “very good”.
“We kept trying to write one for 20 years, but never submitted them,” he told NME. “We have Bond themes for about five movies, but they’re not very good, to be honest.
“I don’t know if we’re spiritually on the same trip as James. As much as I like the films, I don’t know if us singing would do it for him.
“He’d be like, ‘That’s not what I’m into at all, fellas. I like guns and s**t. All this hippie stuff just isn’t going to work.'”
Coldplay released their ninth album ‘Music of the Spheres’, featuring lead track Higher Power and BTS collaboration My Universe, on Friday and they’re set to head out on a world tour in 2022.
‘Music of the Spheres’ is available on CD and limited vinyl.
