Harry Styles is out of the running for Boy George’s forthcoming biopic.
The singer-songwriter was in talks to take the lead role in new movie ‘Karma Chameleon’ but, according to the Culture Club frontman, he’s withdrawn from discussions.
Now, their focus has shifted, with George telling the Daily Mirror: “They are looking at a kid called Yungblud. He is a big English sensation. He is quite young and he has been auditioning.
“There was talk of Harry Styles, but I think he ran. He was too scared.”
After finishing third place on ‘The X Factor’ with One Direction, Harry enjoyed a successful career with the group before launching a chart-topping solo career.
He’s also carved a career onscreen, with roles in ‘Dunkirk’ and the forthcoming movie ‘My Policeman’.
George announced his new movie back in April, revealing the project will shoot “in London and around the world”. Production was set to begin over the summer, but it appears to have been delayed.
Speaking of the film, he says: “I don’t want it to be like a fantasy of somebody else. I feel like it should be honest and truthful as I am hilarious.
“I say tell the truth as the truth is far more interesting than things that are made up, you know.”
Earlier this year, the Karma Chameleon hitmaker revealed plans to celebrate his 60th birthday with even more new music, and hinted he’s already preparing another album for late 2021.
And the new LP could feature a collaboration with Erasure’s Andy Bell, with George revealing: “I wrote the most insane song with Andy Bell called ‘That Night In Brazil’ we are pop music’s finest surrealists!”
It’s not the only collaboration he’s been working on; George enlisted Kim Wilde to appear on Name and Number from his album ‘Cool Karaoke Vol 1’ earlier this year.
The Kids in America star later introduced the Culture Club star onShine On, the lead single from her ‘Pop Don’t Stop: Greatest Hits’ box set.
