Bryan Adams has shared a new preview of his upcoming album ‘How’s It Goin” – check out ‘Lake Ontario’ below.

The track takes aim at US President Donald Trump’s renaming of Lake Ontario to Lake America in the United States, a move opposed by many, including Prime Minister Mark Carney who hit out at the idea in a post on X.

“The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means ‘the lake is beautiful, the lake is big’,” he penned.

Now, Adams has shared similar sentiments, telling the story of the Great Lake in his new track: “From glacial erosion to Indigenous care / From European exploration to industrial wear and tear / The ‘lake of shining waters’ is what the Iroquois called her / It’s a First Nations name — not an executive order.”

In a press release, he adds: “Empires and regimes, dictators and kings, they all come and go. Lake Ontario is forever.

“This is a song for all the sane people on both shores who know that the current madness will pass, and that Lake Ontario will always be Lake Ontario.”

In a statement, the rocker says of his latest LP: “The idea was simply to make a record about Canada.

“It started with writing the song for the documentary Canada’s Wild Eastern Edge and after doing so much research, I was inspired to start writing more songs about Canada. Musically it took me somewhere a little different too, which made the whole thing exciting.”

Clocking in at 12 songs, ‘How’s It Goin” blends country, folk and rock, exploring what he calls a “distinctly Canadian musical landscape”, while touching upon historical figures and moments that shaped the nation.

Included are recent singles ‘The Ballad of Terry Fox‘, ‘51st State‘ and the title song.

‘How’s It Goin’’ is released on November 6 and available to pre-order from Amazon, HMV, Rough Trade, Townsend and more.
