A biopic based on the life and career of Boy George and Culture Club is set to film over the Summer (21).
‘Karma Chameleon’ will shoot “in London and around the world,” George reveals, while hinting at casting details for the highly-anticipated project in a new social media video.
“Hello I’m Boy George and I’m very excited to announce that a movie of my life and Culture Club called ‘Karma Chameleon’ will be shot this summer in London and around the world,” he says.
“Already on board: Daniel Mays, one of my favourite actors, (is) playing my father, and there’s rumours of Keanu Reeves popping in.
“I’d also like to say a big thank you to Millennium films for making this possible and to Sacha Gervasi for writing and directing this movie.
“There’s only one problem – and it’s quite major… who’s going to play me,” he continues. “We’re looking for a brave young actor from anywhere in the world to take on the role of his life. And It’s going to be brilliant!”
Closing out the video, the Do You Really Want to Hurt Me hitmaker quips: “See you on set this summer… I’ll be the one in the hat.”
In the caption of the post, George joked: “I’m already writing my Oscar speech!”
While casting has yet to be confirmed, George has put Harry Styles firmly in the running to play the Culture Club frontman and previously told talkRADIO the star has “been approached or considered”.
“I know that Harry is embarking on an acting career,” George explained. “I think producers did look at him. I don’t know if it will actually happen.
“At the end of the day, acting is such a craft and I think it’s very challenging to play someone like me, because I think most people have the complete wrong idea of who I am and what I am. And a lot of the stuff about me is weird mythical rubbish.”
And he previously teased Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner could take on the lead role.
“There’s been some really interesting suggestions,” he said. “One of the most interesting suggestions was Sophie Turner. [People will say], ‘She can’t play you, she’s a woman’… but when I was 17, I would have loved to have been her.”
Turner responded by tweeting: “I’m SO down @BoyGeorge.”
