A new version of ‘The Bodyguard’ is in the works at Warner Bros.
Originally released in 1992, the film, starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, told the story of a music star and the man hired to protect her.
Houston played actress and singer Rachel Marron alongside Costner’s Frank Farmer – a former secret service agent who falls in love with the leading lady while protecting her from a stalker.
It became a global hit and featured some of the diva’s biggest hits, including the classics I Will Always Love You and I Have Nothing.
‘The Bodyguard’ soundtrack is one of the biggest selling in history and, ahead of its 30th anniversary, a new version of the script is in the works.
According to Variety, playwright Matthew Lopez is working on the project with Warner Bros. Casting details have yet to be confirmed.
It comes as Whitney’s classic hit How Will I Know is due to be remixed by British dance act Clean Bandit for release on September 24 – two years after she peaked at No. 2 with the Kygo remix of 1990 rarity Higher Love.
A new 2LP edition of ‘I Will Always Love You: The Best Of Whitney Houston’ is also due for release on October 29 and available to pre-order now.
