Sam Ryder is set to represent the United Kingdom at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest.
The singer will perform his song Space Man at this year’s grand final in Turin, Italy on May 14, with the star admitting it’s a “privilege” to perform at the Contest.
Following an announcement by Scott Mills on BBC’s ‘Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James’, Sam told BBC’s Radio 1 Newsbeat: “I love Eurovision. I think it’s such a privilege to be able to do it…
“I don’t want to let the stigma or fear of coming at a certain place in a table stop me from doing something and being a part of something that I enjoy so much.”
Last year, James Newman received ‘nil points’ with his song Embers, while Michael Rice also finished bottom at the previous edition with his ballad Bigger Than Us.
But Sam, who has more than 12 million followers on TikTok, isn’t fazed by past results and insists he’ll take the opportunity and “do the best job” possible.
He added: “As long as I can go to Eurovision and know in my heart of hearts I’m going to do the best job I can then everything else is out of my control.”
