The Weeknd has joined forces with Madonna and Playboi Carti on Popular – lifted from the soundtrack to his upcoming HBO series, ‘The Idol’.
Starring The Weeknd – under his birth name Abel Tesfaye – and Lily-Rose Depp in the lead roles, the show focuses on an aspiring pop idol and her complex relationship with a self-help guru and cult leader.
Released as the second song from the soundtrack – following The Weeknd’s Future collaboration, Double Fantasy – Popular is available ahead of the show’s launch on Sunday, June 4. The full soundtrack is released June 30.
Alongside the single, a music video shows Tesfaye and Depp at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
