It’s been 40 years since The Fizz – formerly Bucks Fizz – shot to fame when they won the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest with their iconic, skirt-ripping Making Your Mind Up routine.
To celebrate the milestone, the group has booked a gig at Indigo at The O2 – but they’re unsure whether the show will go ahead due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The anniversary of Bucks Fizz’s big win is April 4th but, speaking to The Sun, singer Cheryl Baker admits she can’t see the show going ahead as planned.
“We booked the Indigo venue at the O2 London but I doubt we’ll be back to normal by then and we wouldn’t be able to afford to do it with reduced capacity,” she says.
“We haven’t cancelled but I can’t see it’s going to happen.”
It’s been a tough year for the star who, like all performers, has been forced off stage due to the coronavirus crisis.
However, she admits it’s been beneficial in forcing her to knuckle down and work on her long-awaited autobiography, which is expected to coincide with The Fizz’s anniversary festivities.
Cheryl previously teased big plans for the group in 2021, revealing: “It’s our 40th anniversary next year and we are really excited about it!
“There’s all sorts of fabulous things in the pipeline… the main thing is that we’re going into the studio with Mike Stock to do album number four for The Fizz.
“So yeah, big things next year.”
The group released their third album with Stock, ‘Smoke & Mirrors’, in 2020, featuring the singles Winning Ways, From Here To Eternity, and The World We Left Behind.
The trio also worked with the producer on ‘The F-Z Of Pop’ and ‘Christmas With The Fizz’.
