Spice Girls are gearing up to celebrate their 25th anniversary with the re-release of debut single Wannabe.
The track, originally released July 8 1996, propelled the group to the top of the charts in the UK, US and worldwide, becoming the first of many anthems for the iconic band.
Now, 25 years on, Mel B, Emma Bunton, Melanie C, Geri Horner and Victoria Beckham – who recently dropped a new line of Pride Month charity merchandise – are celebrating the legacy of the track with a physical reissue of the single.
Due July 23, the group is set to drop on 12″ Picture Disc and silver glitter effect Cassette Tape, featuring the Original Radio Edit of the single and the Junior Vasquez Remix Edit.

We believe there is a Spice Girl in all of us, and we want you to join us on a trip down memory lane! We want to see you singing your heart out, showing off your best dance moves… pic.twitter.com/7JDaqsBNlx
Also included are two new tracks – the Previously Unreleased Demo of Wannabe, plus a brand new song Feed Your Love.
The new ballad was written by Spice Girls and Wannabe co-writers Richard ‘Biff’ Stannard and Matt Rowe.
Meanwhile, the group is also launching the #IAMASPICEGIRL campaign, encouraging fans to share their stories of the group, with a selection set to be featured on their website and social media channels. All videos and message can be sent via spicegirls@umusic.com.
“The Spice Girls belong to everyone and that’s why we want to mark 25 years of Wannabe by celebrating our incredible fans,” said the group.
Both the 12″ Vinyl and Cassette are available to pre-order now.
The announcement comes after Emma recently admitted she’s keen to hit the studio and record some new tracks with the group, which is down to four members due to the departure of Victoria ahead of their 2019 reunion tour.
“I love writing with the girls, we have such a laugh in the studio,” she said.
Mel B also recently discussed the possibility of new music from the group, admitting: “We’ve been more about the lines of doing music together and hopefully getting the tour up and running because everything got shut down because of lockdown.
“My aim is for us to get back together and do some more songs together – and hopefully getting up on stage and entertaining everybody again.”
