The Spice Girls are planning to celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘Spice World: The Movie’ with a brand new sequel.
According to The Sun’s Bizarre column, bandmates Mel B, Emma Bunton, Melanie C and Geri Horner are all on board for the project, which they hope will tempt Victoria Beckham back into the fold.
Geri, who is currently managing the Wannabe group, is said to have taken charge of the potential project and has been in talks with a renowned screenwriter about a possible script.
A source teased: “The girls have been talking about how to mark the film’s anniversary and are actively considering making a tongue-in-cheek sequel.
“They have approached a screenwriter who is considering working on the project and making tentative steps forward.
“It is still in the early stages but they are talking to established names in the business, which proves they are taking a big screen comeback seriously.”
‘Spice World: The Movie’ was released in 1997 and became the highest-grossing movie of all time by a musical group after making over £70 million at the box office.
It’s not the only visual project in the works from the group; in 2019, it was announced the group, including Victoria, were involved in an animated film project set to see the band reimagined as superheroes.
According to Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria, Spice Girls “had an idea that we’ve been developing. They are very involved.”
The animated film was expected to feature new songs as well as classic Spice Girls hits. However, the project has yet to materialise and, amid the pandemic, it is believed to be on hold.
