Seven UK cities have made the shortlist to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.
Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield are all in contention to stage the event in May.
According to the BBC, 20 cities expressed an interest with major locations including London and Belfast failing to qualify.
The chosen city will be announced this autumn.
The UK was chosen to host the contest after organisers decided it could not be staged by 2022 winners Ukraine.
“We’re exceptionally grateful that the BBC has accepted to stage the Eurovision Song Contest in the UK in 2023,” said Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor Martin Österdahl
“The BBC has taken on hosting duties for other winning countries on four previous occasions. Continuing in this tradition of solidarity, we know that next year’s Contest will showcase the creativity and skill of one of Europe’s most experienced public broadcasters whilst ensuring this year’s winners, Ukraine, are celebrated and represented throughout the event.”
It comes after UK entrant Sam Ryder finished second on the leaderboard this year with his hit Space Man.
