Perrie is on track to hit the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart with her debut single, Forget About Us.
The tune is the first from the Little Mix star’s forthcoming debut solo album and was co-written by Perrie with Ed Sheeran, David Hodges and Steve Solomon.
According to the first look at the midweek charts, the single is sitting at No. 7 on the rundown, becoming this week’s highest new entry.
“I look back on past relationships and do think happily about those times,” Perrie says of the single. “Do I want to be there now? No. It didn’t work out that way and if it was supposed to be it would have happened.
“Relationships have been a huge part of my life and they’ve made me who I am now. I think it’s a nice sentiment to be honest about and it’s super relatable.”
Speaking about Forget About Us as an introduction to her forthcoming record, Perrie tells Rebecca Judd on Apple Music 1: “I feel like [Forget About Us] is a really good introduction to my album and I think all my singles are going to be good introductions to what the album’s going to have on there. It is quite eclectic.
“It’s quite different, but it works as a body of work. So I love it, I’m just so excited. It’s nice for everyone to be hearing it instead of just me.”
She adds: “The one thing that I didn’t want to do is release a song and then not know where I’m going after that. I wanted everything to be ready in order, even if, for example, my second single, the decision changes and we change it to something else.
“At least I’ve got a whole back catalogue now of what we can roll with. I just wanted to make sure everything was kind of wrapped up, tied nicely in a ball before I started venturing out.”
