Melanie C has revealed the Spice Girls have several projects in the works as the group turns 25.
Earlier this month, the Spice Up Your Life stars announced a new four-track ‘Wannabe’ EP, featuring three versions of their classic debut single – including a rare demo – plus previously unheard track Feed Your Love.
And speaking on the ‘Celebrity Search Engine’ podcast, the singer hinted there are “many more exciting [Spice Girls-related] things [happening] later on this year”.
Spice Girls released their first single on July 8 1996, propelling the group to the top of the charts in the UK, US and worldwide, and marking the first of many anthems for the iconic band.
Both the 12″ Vinyl and Cassette editions of the ‘Wannabe’ EP are available to pre-order now.
Marking 25 years, the band is also launching the #IAMASPICEGIRL campaign, encouraging fans to share their stories of the group, with a selection set to be featured on their website and social media channels. All videos and message can be sent via spicegirls@umusic.com.
“The Spice Girls belong to everyone and that’s why we want to mark 25 years of Wannabe by celebrating our incredible fans,” said Melanie, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Geri Horner.
The announcement comes after Emma recently admitted she’s keen to hit the studio and record some new tracks with the group, which is down to four members due to the departure of Victoria ahead of their 2019 reunion tour.
“I love writing with the girls, we have such a laugh in the studio,” she said.
Mel B also recently discussed the possibility of new music from the group, admitting: “We’ve been more about the lines of doing music together and hopefully getting the tour up and running because everything got shut down because of lockdown.
“My aim is for us to get back together and do some more songs together – and hopefully getting up on stage and entertaining everybody again.”
