Marcella Detroit is celebrating her ‘Gold’ anniversary in music with a brand new studio album.
The Shakespear’s Sister star is reviving her solo career for the project, which came into fruition during lockdown while the singer penned tracks as part of a new publishing deal.
In an email newsletter to her fanclub, the Stay hitmaker says: “The last person I saw before the pandemic began was Siobhan [Fahey]. My husband and I went over to her place for dinner on March 12 to help her set up her home recording system. It was a lovely evening. Next day, BAM.
“Over the next 16 months I spent a lot of time being creative; I found it was the only way to cope with what was going on in the outside world. I was writing songs for my new publishers, Peer music UK, who I literally signed with on the ‘Ride Again’ tour at the London Palladium, right before I went on stage!
“I was writing music and songs for TV and Film projects initially and I found that I was also writing songs for myself. It turns out I wrote about 70 songs over this time and realized that in those songs I had an album’s worth of material that I was really proud of.
“I’m fortunate to say that I’ve had lots of amazing people helping me with this and as a result I have some great mixes to share with you, including my first single entitled Vicious B**ch. Since it was written during the pandemic, it’s not actually about anyone, it’s about `Mother Nature’ and how wonderful she can be giving us so much beauty and then she’ll throw in a pandemic or a super storm to keep us on our toes.”
Marcella adds: “This year, I celebrate my 50 years in the music business! I’ve been sharing my major achievements over Facebook and Instagram in a 50 day countdown to my birthday which was just this past Monday June 21st.
“I’ll be putting out more singles over the summer and a new album come September, entitled ‘Gold’.”
Earlier this year, Marcella released the digital-only album ‘Made In Detroit’ online, including previously-unreleased recordings and tracks that had been performed live in the past, along with a star-studded charity cover of Robbie Williams’ Angels.
It follows her previous solo effort, 2015’s ‘Gray Matterz’, and Shakespear’s Sisters’ 2019 ‘Ride Again’ EP, featuring the singles All The Queen’s Horses and When She Finds You.
