Madonna has offered fans an update on the status of her forthcoming biopic.
The feature, which has the working title of Little Sparrow, has been in the works for several years, with the Queen of Pop set to take the helm and direct the film.
Speaking with Variety, the star – who is reportedly set to be portrayed by Julia Garner in the movie – revealed she turned filmmaker after studio executives began pursuing the concept
“I’ve had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film. It was also a pre-emptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me,” she said.
“Mostly misogynistic men. So, I put my foot in the door and said, ‘No one’s going to tell my story, but me.'”
Admitting she’s struggling to condense all of her ideas for the biopic into the screenplay, she continued: “I have a very long script that is really hard for me to make shorter.
“I’ve been whittling away at it, but it’s like hacking off my limbs.”
A release date for the film has yet to be confirmed.
It comes as Madonna prepares to celebrate her 50 US Dance Club Songs Chart No. 1 hits with the new ‘Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones’ remix collection.
The 50-track collection includes her favourite remixes of her dance hits, spanning her entire four-decade career.
Each remix has been newly remastered by Mike Dean, who produced Madonna’s two most-recent studio albums, ‘Rebel Heart’ and ‘Madame X’.
In addition to the bumper set, an abridged 16-track LP, simply titled ‘Finally Enough Love’, will also be issued.
‘Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones’ will be available digitally on August 19, along with 3CD version limited 6LP red and black vinyl editions.
Meanwhile, ‘Finally Enough Love’ is available to stream now, with CD and 2LP versions out August 19. All versions are available to pre-order now.
