Madonna is set to open this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) with her first performance at the show in 23 years.
Having secured a career-high 11 nominations on the back of her latest, chart-topping album ‘Confessions II’, the Queen of Pop will take to the stage in Los Angeles when the awards return on September 27.
It marks her first performance at the ceremony since she famously kissed Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during the 2003 show.
Madge has a longstanding history with the VMAs; she’s earned a total of 19 awards to date and her performance of ‘Like a Virgin’ during the inaugural 1984 ceremony is widely regarded as a groundbreaking moment in pop culture.
She’s expected to utilise the slot to showcase her latest LP, which debuted atop the UK charts and delivered the UK Top 10 hit ‘Love Sensation’ – her first since 2009’s ‘Celebration’ peaked at No. 3.
After topping the Billboard 200 in the US, along with various other countries’ charts, the ‘Bring Your Love‘ singer took to social media to share her gratitude with fans for their support of her latest project.
“Words cannot express how grateful and surprised I am by the incredible reception Confessions on a Dance Floor has received,” she penned.
“Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this and who has helped make this dream come true. Especially my Fans. The Goodwill and positivity has been incredible. I’m still pinching myself.
“I can’t believe it’s #1 all around the world. My dream was to make people dance this summer!! To bring people JOY! Dreams do come true. Thanks and love!”
