Lindsey Buckingham has begun work on a new solo album.

The former Fleetwood Mac star released his most recent, self-titled LP in 2021 and in a post on social media, the musician revealed he’s started work on its follow-up.

“Although 2022 was certainly a positive year in many respects, it was also a year of loss and disappointment,” he penned. “The sad passing of several of my longtime soulmates has been profoundly heartbreaking. And a largely successful year of touring was unexpectedly cut short at the end due to challenges with my health.

“The year’s polarity of positives and negatives has only strengthened my resolve to remain in the moment and to continue to move forward.”

The hitmaker was forced to cut short his European solo tour due to health issues, cancelling numerous shows and wrapping the run early at The London Palladium on October 1, and he later suffered heartbreak at the loss of his former bandmate Christine McVie, who passed away in November.

However, ending his post on a positive note, Lindsey penned: “Happily, my health has returned, and I’ve begun work on a new album. Thanks so much to everyone for your support. I’m looking forward to 2023 and beyond!”

While details of his health concerns have yet to be revealed, a statement shared at the time of the shows’ cancellation read: “Due to ongoing health issues, Lindsey is regrettably having to cancel the remaining shows on his current European tour.

“Refunds will be available from the point of purchase. Lindsey sends his deepest apologies to all of his fans who were planning to attend and hopes to return to Europe in the future.”

In a review of the ‘Lindsey Buckingham’ album – his first in a decade – RETROPOP likened several tracks to his output with Fleetwood Mac, calling the LP “a welcome reminder of the music that soundtracked a generation”.
