Kylie Minogue’s grown friends were reduced to tears when the pop princess reunited with her former flame Jason Donovan during her gig at London’s Hyde Park in 2018.
The special moment took place during Kylie’s performance of the pair’s iconic duet, Especially For You, and was part of her performance for BBC Radio 2’s Live in London’s Hyde Park event.
Speaking to Australian radio duo Fitzy and Wippa on Nova FM, Kylie said that she had only texted Jason about doing a reunion a day or two prior to the show.
“He said he had a lot on and if he was going to come it would just be him on his bike, I said, ‘Sure, let me know’,” she recalled. “So then he told me he was going to come, I let my team know, and of course you should see the light bulbs go off on all of them.”
Speaking about the day of the show, Kylie said: “So I said to him, “We’re doing the song anyway, do you want to join in? You can say no, you can just do a little bit whatever you want to do.” Bless him, he did it.”
On the day, fans saw Jason and Kylie, who starred as Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell on Neighbours from 1986 to 1988, join each other for a sweet performance of the ballad, with the Spinning Around star revealing the moment was too much for some of her pals.
“Afterwards, I had grown, good friends of mine calling me crying,” the star, who released Say Something, the lead single from her forthcoming album Disco, on Friday remembered.
