Kim Wilde could return to the Top 10 of the UK Albums Chart for the first time since the 1980s this week.
The British pop icon is tracking at No. 6 with ‘Closer‘, the sequel to her 1988 LP ‘Close’, which coincidentally is her last record to reach the Top 10.
Billed as a “sister” project to her classic album, ‘Closer’ is the follow-up to Kim’s 2018 studio album, ‘Here Come The Aliens’, with the hitmaker telling RETROPOP she used hits such as Hey Mister Heartache, You Came, Never Trust A Stranger and Four Letter Word as a “blueprint” for the record.
“It really is a sister album to ‘Close’ in many, many ways,” she shares. “It has the same diversity, the same sort of eclectic storytelling. Obviously, there’s a big emphasis on personal things and love and bigger themes.
“There’s dance on it. There’s rock on it. It’s as diverse as the ‘Close’ album and we really used that as a blueprint.”
