Jack Savoretti has released The Way You Said Goodbye as the latest single from his chart topping record ‘Europiana’.
Written with Jack’s long standing friend and pianist Shannon Harris, The Way You Said Goodbye is a melancholic ode to the joy and freedom of travel.
Of the song, Jack explains: “My piano player Shannon Harris started playing this beautiful piano part that took me to a Parisian late night club and I could see smoke in the air and hear the clinking of glasses – it reminded me of the first time me and my wife did a trip together to Paris. We were young and trying to make it as unforgettable as possible.
“I wanted to write about that with a sense of strong melancholy. There’s a sadness to the song that I think was due to the fact that it felt like such a distant memory that we could live like that again.
“I want you to feel like you’ve been to the theatre after this song and that you’ve heard a tale of something that once was.”
The album was preceded by lead single Who’s Hurting Who, a collaboration with disco icon Nile Rodgers.
In a review of the album, Retro Pop called ‘Europiana’ Jack’s “most accomplished offering to date” which captures “the youth and early loves of one of Britain’s premier musicians”.
‘Europiana’ is out on CD and Vinyl. Signed CD copies are also available.
