Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell wished Queen Elizabeth a happy birthday as she turned 94 on Tuesday.
The Ride It star discussed her love for the Queen in a chat with British Vogue, and admitted she tries to embody the British monarch’s “stoic determination” in her own life.
Admitting that she often asks herself, ‘What would the Queen do?’, especially during the coronavirus crisis, Geri said: “When – like now – I feel powerless, the Queen reminds me that I can still decide to put a smile on my face, to brush my hair and put on a fabulous dress.
“Sometimes there is ugliness in the world that we cannot control, but we can control how we respond to it,” she added. “Of course, I’m human, with fears, and the occasional urge to cry out, ‘What about me?!’
“But over the years I’ve learned that, when I act better than I feel, I eventually do feel better. The Queen embodies that stoic determination: she’s an icon of strength – the ultimate symbol of girl power.”
Geri has met the Queen several times during her career and reflected on their first meeting in 1997 with the Spice Girls at the Royal Variety Performance.
She said HRH was “very encouraging” over their performance and it “felt like she actually liked what we were about”.
