Gary Kemp delves into the creation of his latest album ‘INSOLO’ with a new 25-minute documentary special.
The LP is the musician’s first in 25 years and features singles Ahead of the Game, Too Much and Waiting for the Band.
And in a new online feature, Gary opens up on the record’s 11 tracks, discussing his writing process and how the pandemic influenced his creativity.
Speaking about his decision to revive his solo career, the Through the Barricades star tells Retro Pop: “I didn’t think I was going to for a long time.
“Spandau Ballet have always been there – we keep rising from the dead – and every time they come back, we need a few extra songs to revitalise them
“So there was always this thing in the background, thinking ‘Am I in? Am I not in? Am I gonna wait for that to happen or not to happen?’”
But, after turning 60, Gary admits he was compelled to write a more reflective collection of songs, which intrinsically became a solo record.
“I’ve reached a significant age, and I felt the need to sit down and write some songs that are more reflective and join the dots between all of the different characters I’ve been and different incarnations of myself,” he adds.
“They didn’t seem like they were connected at times.”
‘INSOLO’ is available on CD and LP. Signed CDs are also available.
