Over 1,400 of Freddie Mercury’s personal possessions have gone on show at an exhibition at Sotheby’s, London.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that items from the late Queen frontman’s home – including handwritten lyrics, personal Polaroid photos and costumes – would be put up for auction this September.

Queen share previously-unreleased track ‘Face It Alone’ featuring late Freddie Mercury

“This summer, we invite you to step into Freddie’s Mercury’s personal world in an extended takeover at Sotheby’s London,” reads a post on the Sotheby’s website.

Mercury – who died in London on November 24, 1991 – left his home of Garden Lodge, Kensington, including all of his possessions, to close friend Mary Austin, who is now sharing them.

According to Oliver Barker, Sotheby’s European chairman, fans have been overwhelmed by the experience of viewing all of the items and memorabilia for the first time.

“I think that there is something a little bit different about this,” he told Sky News. “I think that because Freddie is just so revered, and I think we’re showing the private side of his life, conversely with public life, which has never been explored before.

“So I genuinely think this is a piece of archaeological history-making, happening now.”

‘Freddie Mercury: A World Of His Own’ runs from August 4 to September 5 and is free to the public with no booking required.
