A new documentary on Elton John will get its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival 2024.
Chronicling his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour’, which began in 2018 and became the highest grossing concert tour of all time when it wrapped last summer, ‘Elton John: Never Too Late’ is set to “pull the back the curtain” on the superstar’s life.
According to Music News, the film features “never-before-seen concert footage of him over the past 50 years, as well as hand-written journals and present-day footage of him and his family”.
It also includes footage filmed at his final US performance at the Dodger Stadium in November 2022, which aired on Disney+ as ‘Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium’
‘Elton John: Never Too Late’ is directed by R.J. Cutler and David Furnish and will air on Disney+ following its September debut.
It was previously reported that the music legend was working on a “top secret” record, with his friend and collaborator, Bernie Taupin, revealing Elton’s 32nd studio LP is “done”.
Speaking at ‘The Other Songs Live’ in London earlier this year, he said: “Elton and I have an album coming out very soon, but I daren’t say anything about it because I’m under strict orders to keep schtum.
“It’s all done and recorded.”
Teasing that the album will “surprise” and “excite” people, he added: “I think it’s quite brilliant and quite contemporary and it will certainly surprise a lot of people and excite a lot of people and hopefully be successful.”
Earlier this year, Pete Townsend let slip that Elton has recorded a new album in Los Angeles with Americana star Brandi Carlile.
He said: “Elton is so fraught with loss at not knowing what to do next. He’s just gone over to LA to make an album with Brandi Carlile. They made an album together in two weeks. He says it’s one of the best things they’ve ever done.”
