Elton John has no plans to hit the studio and record new music.
The I’m Still Standing hitmaker has been enjoying “being a dad” with husband David Furnish and sons Zachary, nine, and seven-year-old Elijah during lockdown and, amid his hectic family life, the star admits he doesn’t feel like “another Elton John record” is what’s needed “at the moment”.
He tells Record Collector magazine: “I have no idea what the f**k I’m going to do next, and that feels great.
“I just don’t think this is a time for me to think about recording,” explains the Tiny Dancer singer. “I’m a dad and I love being a dad. I will get in the mood to record again – and I’ll get in the mood to write.
“But no one needs another Elton John record out at the moment.”
Elton’s songwriting partner Bernie Taupin recently revealed he has “nudged him gently a number of times” to begin work on his 31st studio album.
“I would love to see him start to do some work.,” explains the lyricist. “I continually encourage him to do so. How we would do it, I’m not sure. I’ve got some ideas in my head that he might be interested in. But I really, really would love to get back on track and back in the game.”
Elton released his last studio album, Wonderful Crazy Night, in 2016. However, he has since made a number of guest appearances, including featured spots on Lady Gaga’s Sine From Above and Gorillaz’s The Pink Phantom.
