A new clip from the forthcoming film ‘George Michael: Freedom Uncut’ sees a host of famous faces discuss the impact of the late hitmaker’s Freedom! ‘90 music video.
Narrated by the late former Wham! Star, the film was developed in collaboration with co-director, producer and friend David Austin prior to George’s death aged 53 on December 25, 2016.
In the new clip, stars such as Elton John, Mark Ronson, Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell reflect on the David Fincher-directed visual.
“It changed the whole face of how videos were done,” says Elton. “The video said everything. It was a genius and it was a revolutionary thing.”
Sharing her experiences of appearing in the music video, Naomi adds: “George pitched it to me in LA and his exact words were ‘You’re the leader of the gang and unless you say yes, the rest of the girls won’t.’”
George Michael Freedom Uncut will be released as a global cinema event on June 22.
A synopsis reads: “A poignant and moving tribute to the legacy of one of Britain’s greatest performers, in his final work George Michael reclaims the narrative of his career, personal life and controversies in collaboration with co-director, producer and friend David Austin.”
