Elton John has been announced as the first headliner for Glastonbury 2023. 

The I’m Still Standing hitmaker is currently on the road with his ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road‘ tour, which is set to end next summer. 

Almost all of the dates have been shared but, after teasing he has “one final date to announce,” the musician has been confirmed to perform at the Worthy Farm event.

“We are incredibly excited to announce that the one and only @EltonOfficial will headline the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night at Glastonbury 2023, for what will be the final UK show of his last ever tour,” organisers tweeted.

Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis added separately: “It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first ever Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night next year.

“This will be the final UK show of Elton’s last ever tour, so we will be closing the Festival and marking this huge moment in both of our histories with the mother of all send-offs.

“We are so very happy to finally bring the Rocket Man to Worthy Farm!”

Talk of an appearance at the Worthy Farm event began earlier this year when a run of dates in Paris, France were rescheduled from June 2022 to June 2023.

Now booked for June 21, 27 and 28, the arrangement leaves a gap in his schedule for Glastonbury, which takes place from June 23-25, 2023.

Elton, who recently scored hit collaborations with Dua Lipa and Britney Spears, will start his European run at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland on March 28, following shows in North America, Australia and New Zealand.

The hitmaker’s final US concert performance recently aired on Disney+, documenting his third consecutive show at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium on November 20, with guest appearances from Dua, Brandi Carlile and Kiki Dee.

In addition to the concert movie, titled ‘Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium’, his other two shows at Dodger Stadium will also be filmed for inclusion in the upcoming documentary, ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performances And the Years That Made His Legend’.

Directed by R.J. Cutler and David Furnish, the film will also feature archival concert footage, material from Elton’s “hand-written journals”, and along with home footage from his personal collection.
