Dolly Parton has her sights set on “one more big album” as she teases a gospel-influenced record.
The country icon is switching things up with the release of her rock LP, the aptly-titled ‘Rockstar’, in November, and she’s already looking to the future.
Teasing plans to record a “great gospel album”, she said at a press launch in London: “I have one more big album that I want to do to feel like I’ve accomplished everything.
“At my age, you think about what’s going on in the world and you think, ‘I’m not going to be around here that long, so I want to leave some kind of messages’.”
Dolly’s new 30-song LP includes a range of cover versions and original recordings, with guest appearances from an extended line-up of stars, such as Stevie Nicks, Miley Cyrus and Debbie Harry.
And explaining why fans should give the record a chance, the singer-songwriter – who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year – said: “I hope it’s a big hit because it costs a lot of money to look this cheap. I need the money.”
Included on ‘Rockstar’ are nine original tracks and 21 iconic rock anthems, with Dolly “honoured and privileged to have worked with some of the greatest iconic singers and musicians of all time”.
“I’m so excited to finally present my first Rock and Roll album ‘Rockstar’,” she said in an album announcement. “To be able to sing all the iconic songs throughout the album was a joy beyond measure. I hope everybody enjoys the album as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together!”
‘Rockstar’ is due November 17 via Butterfly Records and will be available as a 4LP set, a 2CD set, and digitally.
