Dolly Parton is headed to Broadway with a stage musical set to tell the story of her life.
Titled ‘Hello, I’m Dolly’, the show will feature classic hits and new songs from the country icon, who is also co-writing the production, which is set to debut in 2026.
“I’ve written many original songs for the show and included all your favorites in it as well,” she says is a statement. “You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp, it truly is a Grand Ol’ Opera. Pun and fun intended.”
The Jolene singer has teamed up with Maria S. Schlatte – who produced her Netflix film ‘Christmas On The Square’ – on the story, which is named after her debut album, released in 1967.
It won’t be the first time her music has been heard on Broadway; a stage version of ‘9 To 5’ arrived in 2009, while the 1993 Christmas special ‘Candles, Snow & Mistletoe’ contained her song With Bells On.
‘Hello, I’m Dolly’ will be produced by Parton, Adam Speers for ATG Productions and Danny Nozell for CTK Enterprises.
Before then, Dolly will release her new album, ‘Dolly Parton & Family: Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith & Fables’, which along with a four-part docuseries chronicles her family history.
Due November 15, Dolly announced the project in a statement on her website, writing: “I cannot believe that it has been 60 years this month since I graduated from Sevier County High School and moved to Nashville to pursue my dreams.
“My Uncle Bill Owens was by my side for many years helping me develop my music. I owe so much to him and all the family members past and present who have inspired me along this journey.
“I am honored to spotlight our families’ musical legacy that is my Smoky Mountain DNA.”
The full tracklist for the record – which explores her family’s origins from the United Kingdom in the 1600s to their home today in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee will be announced when pre-orders begin on June 21.
