Last year, Delta told RETROPOP how her new music was inspired by the lifting of Australia’s strict Covid lockdowns and her subsequent experience on the road with the Backstreet Boys.
“That last album was so intense and heavy; it was me at the piano asking, ‘Where do we come from? How did I get here? What do I need to do to heal and work through?’… It was a real deep dive,” admitted the singer-songwriter of 2021’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Dreams’, which encouraged her to take a step back and “have a retrospective moment”.
“But when the borders opened up and we could go back to travelling, I toured with the Backstreet Boys and I was surrounded by so much fun, which gave me a sense of freedom in what I wanted to do now!”
The result is an anthemic sound and one that’s inspired by her idols, including her late friend, Olivia Newton-John, and Tina Turner, whose story resonated with Delta, who has experienced strife over the years after being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 18 during the week of her first album release.
Of the Queen of Rock & Roll’s influence, she explained: “She went through so much then at 40 years old moved into this amazing new chapter and started playing stadiums. It was insane!
“You know, everyone’s journey is different and it really is an individual thing, but this era right now feels really good and I’m looking forward to seeing where the music takes me!”
