Coldplay’s latest album ‘Music of the Spheres’ is the UK’s fastest-selling LP of the year.
The record shifted 81,000 copies in its first three days, surpassing Dave’s ‘We’re All Alone In This Together’, which amassed 74,000 sales in its opening week in July.
It became the group’s ninth consecutive album to debut at No. 1, knocking Sam Fender’s ‘Seventeen Going Under’ from the top spot, and shifted more than 100,000 copies, marking the first time that has been done in an opening week since Ed Sheeran’s ‘No. 6 Collaborations Project’ in July 2019.
‘Music of the Spheres’ also topped the vinyl albums chart.
The unbroken run of No. 1 studio albums has now tied the record of The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, whose solo albums and band LPs also shot to the top spot. They are also now neck and neck with ABBA and Bob Dylan, who each have nine consecutive number one records.
Noel Gallagher still holds the record with 10 consecutive chart-toppers.
Coldplay’s ninth studio album features lead track Higher Power and BTS collaboration My Universe.
The group will hit the road throughout 2022 with their ‘Music of the Spheres’ World Tour.
The album is available on CD and limited vinyl.
