Coldplay celebrated Independence Day in the US with a spectacular performance of their latest single Higher Power.
The Chris Martin-fronted group hit the stage for Macy’s Fourth of July Spectacular, which saw the group perform a double whammy of hits, including classic track Viva La Vida.
Between recordings, fans were treated to off-camera renditions of Yellow, Clocks, A Sky Full of Stars and more.
The set was seen by an 8,000-strong audience in New York, marking the band’s biggest performance since the beginning of the pandemic last year.
Framing the show was a display of more than 1,000 fireworks, which were let off on a barge on the East River during the televised segments of the band’s appearance.
The group returned with Higher Power, the lead single from their forthcoming ninth studio album, in May, and premiered the track via live link to astronauts on the International Space Station.
While details of the album have yet to be announced, it will be their first since 2019’s ‘Everyday Life’.
