Cher has changed her mind on a return to the ‘Mamma Mia!’ franchise.
The iconic diva featured in the second movie ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ as Ruby Sheridan, mother of Meryl Streep’s character, Donna Sheridan-Carmichael.
She recently told fans on Twitter she was unsure about starring in a third ‘Mamma Mia!’ movie but, according to producer Judy Craymer, she’s managed to persuade the singer to rethink her decision.
Judy – who has worked on both the stage and cinematic versions of the ABBA musical – revealed the Believe singer had told her: “No one wants to see us old people on the screen.”
However, when she told Cher she wanted her to be in the film and would love to see her sing Slipping Through My Fingers with Meryl, she retorted: “I’m there! When do we start shooting?”
Judy admits that the scene would have to be in the form of a flashback, after Meryl’s character was killed off, but tells the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye: “Oh well, you can do anything these days in a film.”
Following her appearance in the franchise, Cher went on to record an album of ABBA cover versions, ‘Dancing Queen’, but in a post on Twitter she previously admitted she’s not sure about signing on for another stint onscreen.
In response to a fan’s tweet about her and co-star Amanda Seyfried, Cher penned: “Love Her… But She Keeps Whispering Mamma Mia 3 in my ear…
“I Said Babe,1&2 Have Used Most Famous Songs,I Made Mamma Mia “ Everyone But you is Ancient. [sic]”
While a third ‘Mamma Mia!’ movie has yet to be confirmed, creator Judy has teased a further instalment of the franchise has always been intended.
