Chaka Khan is digging deep into the vault for her live stream concert debut.
The Queen of Funk returns with a special Thanksgiving show, which she promises won’t be the same set she’s been performing for the past few decades.
In an Instagram video, she says: “It’s been a really enlightening year for all of us and I’ve had a lot of time to think about what I really want to do with my voice and my life and my career.
“I’ve been singing some of the same songs for almost 50 years and, you know, one grows weary of singing the same thing – you lose a little spunk and love in a way,” explains the Through The Fire hitmaker.
“So I just felt like I need to do something new and, by doing something new, I want to give you something old,” she teases. “That’s stuff that I have never sung on stage that’s been recorded – some has and some hasn’t – but they’re some of my favourite songs, because they speak of me, from my heart.
“I want to share that part of me with you by playing some songs for you that were album cuts or B-sides, most of which were written by myself, and my brother and other people as well – so we’re gonna take you on a little journey, a walk through time, and I’m gonna walk with you.”
During the show, which takes place on 26 November at 7 pm ET (midnight UK time), the I’m Every Woman star will “talk to you about all the songs from this selection, and give you some history about these tunes and how they came to be.”
“I’m so excited to announce 2020 VISION CHAKA KHAN TV my 1st, but definitely not last, Steaming On-Demand Show,” penned the hitmaker. “In the wake of our tumultuous year… it’s time for us to come together.
“Most importantly, to find peace and love with each other and find ways to heal together, as one world,” she wrote. “The way I know how to do that is through music.
“With that in mind, I want to share my inspiration, my passion, the muse that keeps the heart beating. From my house to your house, I want to share a side of me that’s never been seen before. In your living room, this Thanksgiving, I’m going to take you on a journey.”
Tickets for the show, which will also feature a guest set from Chaka’s daughter, singer Indira Khan, are available here.
