Chaka Khan is giving up touring.
The I’m Every Woman hitmaker, 70, told Rolling Stone she plans to stop playing extended runs of shows, but will continue to perform one-off gigs.
“Some people, that’s all they have, you know? I got this rich-ass life. I’ve got great-grandchildren I want to get to know better,” she explained.
“So I will not do another tour. I’ll do dates, but it won’t look like a tour. They’ll be far enough apart that I can have time to sleep in between.”
When it comes to retiring from music altogether, she joked: “Well, I might do that three or four times, like other bitches do.”
It comes amid reports that Chaka is one of the favourites for the coveted Glastonbury Legends slot, topping organisers’ lists alongside country-pop star Shania Twain.
“Talks have been ongoing for months and months with both Chaka and Shania,” sources said. “Organisers have left it far later than usual to nail down the festival’s three headliners and that has meant no decision has been made about who to choose for the Legend slot.
“But Chaka and Shania are top of the list, have each said they would be interested and are both keeping the date free. It would be an incredible honour for either of them — and the hits would please everyone.”
Meanwhile, Chaka will be in the UK over the summer for shows as she celebrates 50 years in music, including a 10,000 capacity concert at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire.
