Carly Rae Jepsen has shared another taster from her upcoming double album ‘Day and Night’.
‘Motivation’ appears on the synth-heavy ‘Night’ side of the project, due September 18 via Interscope, and serves as the follow-up to her previous, ABBA-inspired single ‘Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor‘.
Over house-inspired beats – conceived in her hometown in the autumn, when the sound of leaves underfoot inspired a rhythm – Jepsen sings about family expectations and the process of defining yourself.
Alongside the track, a music video directed by Caio Viera and set in Paris brings together a varied group of people, leaning into the theme of connection and family, representing both birth and chosen bonds.

‘Day And Night’ – also featuring the singles ‘On Wires‘ and ‘After All‘ – is separated into two distinct haves; ‘Day’ is “organic and raw, with live instrumentation and hints of ’70s-inspired psychedelic pop”, while ‘Night’ is “exploratory and intense, shifting into a sleek, synth-driven world of dance pop”, according to a press release.
The album is a collaboration with Tavish Crowe, Kyle Shearer, Nate Cyphert and Cole M.G.N.
Jepsen – who released her most-recent, seventh album ‘The Loveliest Time’, in 2023, as a companion to her previous LP, 2022’s ‘The Loneliest Time’ – will launch ‘Day And Night’ with a headlining performance at New York City’s All Things Go Festival on September 27.
