Carly Rae Jepsen leans into the classic pop sound of ABBA on her latest track ‘Don’t Leave Me on the Dancefloor’.
Lifted from her upcoming double album ‘Day and Night‘, the single is the first to be lifted from the more synth-leaning ‘Night’ side of the project, following previous releases ‘On Wires‘ and ‘After All‘.
Revealing the inspiration behind ‘Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor’, the Canadian star says: “I’d just been recording in Sweden and then traveled to London to see ABBA Voyage.
“I came home with a mission of making my own ABBA-esque pop song – something with a perfect pop melody, but with some updated production. I wanted a hook that made you feel like you had to participate and sing along.”
Alongside the single, a music video starring actor Alden Ehrenreich and actress Olivia Washington, and directed by playwright and actor Jeremy O. Harris – who makes his music video directorial debut with the project – has been released.
He says: “With every song on ‘Day and Night’ Carly, our last modern bard, has turned complex stories into a jaunty pop smash while also mining the joys and pains of loving and being loved as adult now.
“I feel so lucky that Alden and Olivia were here to play a couple on the brink in the first of Carly’s night tracks, the song made me think of my relationship and so many others in this bleak moment in history who despite it all aren’t abandoning their partner on the dance floor but working it out together.”

‘Day And Night’ is separated into two distinct haves; ‘Day’ is “organic and raw, with live instrumentation and hints of ’70s-inspired psychedelic pop”, while ‘Night’ is “exploratory and intense, shifting into a sleek, synth-driven world of dance pop”, according to a press release.
The album is a collaboration with Tavish Crowe, Kyle Shearer, Nate Cyphert and Cole M.G.N.
Jepsen – who released her most-recent, seventh album ‘The Loveliest Time’, in 2023, as a companion to her previous LP, 2022’s ‘The Loneliest Time’ – will launch ‘Day And Night’ with a headlining performance at New York City’s All Things Go Festival on September 27.
