Mike Nolan will exit The Fizz later this year after more than 40 years with the 1981 Eurovision winners.
The singer, who helped Bucks Fizz score classic hits such as Making Your Mind Up, Piece Of The Action, The Land Of Make Believe, My Camera Never Lies and Now Those Days Are Gone, confirmed his exit during an interview on BBC Radio 2.
Citing “personal reasons” for his exit later this year, he told Michael Ball: “I have decided to go, to leave. I’ve been thinking about it for a long, long time and I just thought, ‘This is the time to do it’.
“It’s 43 years we’ve been together, it’s a long time, and there’s probably 10 years left in us yet, but…”
Asked what his departure means for the future of the group, Cheryl and Jay confirmed they plan to continue, with the former sharing: “We’ll replace Mike with one or possibly two other guys – they have to be of a certain age, that’s the thing – so anyone out there…”
Taking to social media, the group shared: “We can confirm, following the Michael Ball show, that Mike will be leaving the group at the end of the year. Cheryl and Jay will be continuing as ‘The Fizz’ and a statement from Mike, will follow in the coming days. Thank you all for your understanding.”
Cheryl, Mike and Jay rebranded as The Fizz in 2016 and released four albums in collaboration with Mike Stock: ‘The F-Z Of Pop’ (2017), ‘Christmas With The Fizz’ (2018), ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ (2020) and ‘Everything Under The Sun‘ (2022).
Before his exit, the group are returning to the indigo at The O2 stage for a summer 2024 headline show on June 28.
