Bryan Adams isn’t sure he’ll ever truly feel as though he’s made it in the music business.
The pop-rocker may be approaching the 45th anniversary of the release of his debut album, but he’s yet to fully come to terms with his superstar status.
Speaking in the April 2022 edition of Retro Pop, the Heaven hitmaker admits: “Someone said to me, ‘Do you ever hear some buskers doing your songs?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, me!’.
“It still feels like I’m busking all this time later.”
It comes ahead of the release of Bryan’s 15th studio album ‘So Happy It Hurts’, which sees the Summer of ‘69 singer reunite with the co-writers behind some of his all-time biggest hits.
But according to the singer-songwriter, recording a new album wasn’t on his radar until the world shut down in 2020 and he found himself stuck at home after his US Tour with Bon Jovi was axed.
“I already had a load of time on my hands, so I just went through my coat pocket and got all the bits of paper with some ideas on them, put them on a bulletin board in my studio and started just trying to make songs out of them,” he explains. “By the end of the year I had an album.”
Without any pressure to get the record finished, the process also allowed Bryan to fulfil one of his childhood dreams and learn to play the drums.
“One of the things I always wanted to be was a drummer,” he smiles. “That was my dream as a youngster.
“So just before the pandemic, I bought myself a drum kit – as you do – and that’s where I’ve been, basically for weeks and weeks, just whacking the drums.”
