Britney Spears’ father has insisted there are “no grounds whatsoever” for removing him from his daughter’s conservatorship.
Jamie has served as the conservator of the singer’s estate since the legal arrangement began in 2008, but she is pushing for him to be removed from his role and the set-up scrapped altogether.
While her lawyer Mathew Rosengart has called on Jamie to step down voluntarily, he refused and has doubled down on his defence, insisting he has “dutifully and faithfully served as the conservator of his daughter’s estate without any blemishes on his record,” according to Sky.
Britney was granted permission to hire her own lawyer last month and he wasted no time in filing to remove Jamie Spears from the conservatorship, as per her wishes.
The next hearing in the long-running case is set to take place on September 29, but Rosengart has now requested the court move it to later this month.
In papers filed in Los Angeles, he insisted: “Every day that passes is another day of avoidable harm and prejudice to Ms. Spears and the Estate.
“There has been an evident dissipation of assets of Ms. Spears’ Estate, and that dissipation is ongoing.”
If the date change isn’t possible, he’s also asked the judge to consider suspending Jamie at the earliest date possible.
Admitting she’s been left “traumatised” and “depressed”, Britney pleaded with a Los Angeles judge to call time on the conservatorship back in June and shared her wish to cut ties with her father and open legal proceedings against her family.
Following the hearing, fans supporting the #FreeBritney movement and stars took to social media to lend their support to the hitmaker.
