Bjorn Ulvaeus has assured fans that, three years after teasing a comeback, ABBA will release new music this year.
The musician is adamant the I Have a Dream group will “definitely” be putting out new music in 2021 – exactly 40 years after the release of their last studio album, ‘The Visitors’, in 1981.
Speaking to Australia’s The Herald Sun newspaper, he said: “There will be new music this year, that is definite, it’s not a case anymore of it might happen, it will happen.”
And according to Bjorn, he Benny Andersson, Agnetha Faltskog and Frida Lyndstad soon slipped back into the swing of recording after four decades apart.
“We’re really, really good friends,” he added. “The four of us stand in the studio for the first time in 40 years and there’s just something in knowing what we’ve been through.
“It’s hard to describe, but there are such strong, strong bonds between us.”
Back in 2018, ABBA confirmed the release of two original new songs – I Still Have Faith In You and Don’t Shut Me Down – which has now been expanded to five, with Björn opening up on the direction of the tracks.
“One of them is a pop tune, very danceable,” he said. “The other is more timeless, more reflective, that is all I will say. It is Nordic sad, but happy at the same time.”
In addition to the new tunes – which as yet do not have a release date – ABBA will also hit the road with a new hologram tour, featuring digital ABBAtars of the group members.
