Beyoncé has teamed up with Madonna for a new remix of her smash hit single Break My Soul.
The lead track from the former Destiny’s Child star’s chart-topping seventh solo LP ‘Renaissance’ features snippets of the Queen of Pop’s 1990 hit Vogue.
It also sees Beyoncé recreate the classic spoken-word section of the ‘I’m Breathless’ hit while referencing iconic Black women in music, including Aaliyah, Nina Simone, and Grace Jones.
“Queen Mother Madonna, Aaliyah, Rosetta Tharpe, Santigold, Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, Betty Davis, Solange Knowles,” she sings.
“Lauryn Hill, Roberta Flack, Toni, Janet, Tierra Whack. Missy, Diana, Grace Jones, Aretha, Anita, Grace Jones.”
The track marks the pair’s first collaboration and follows a four-track remix EP, featuring reworks from will.i.am, Honey Dijon and others.
In a review of the album, Retro Pop noted that what stands out on ‘Renaissance’ is “the fun that Beyoncé has over the course of the project, which is undoubtedly her most joyous release in years.”
‘Renaissance’ is available now.
