Ariana Grande could land her eighth UK No. 1 single with yes, and? this week.
In the first midweek update from OfficialCharts, the house track is at No. 2 behind Noah Kahan’s Stick Season, which is vying for a third consecutive week at the top.
It will become Grande’s 32nd Top 40 appearance and 21st Top 10 (including eight No. 1s to date).
The last time the US superstar reached the top spot was in 2020 with the title track from her ‘Positions’ album, and with her Lady Gaga collaboration, Rain On Me.
yes, and? sees Grande tackle a number of personal issues in its lyrics, including recent press hounding surrounding her personal life and social media posts, singing: ‘Now, I’m so done with caring / What you think, no, I won’t hide / Underneath your own projections / Or change my most authentic life’.
An accompanying music video builds upon those themes, opening with industry critics gossiping about Grande in an elevator before emerging to find her delivering a performance masterclass to the new track and reminding everyone of her superstar credentials.
