Steps are set to release their sixth album, What The Future Holds, on November 27th.
After the group launched their comeback earlier this week, following speculation of new music, Steps confirmed on Tuesday that What The Future Holds – the follow-up to 2017’s Tears On the Dancefloor, is coming later this year.
“We couldn’t keep it a secret any longer,” they wrote on Instagram.
“Our new album What The Future Holds arrives on November 27th and it’s available to pre-order from 8am tomorrow!”
The single, What The Future Holds, is expected to drop later this week. The group teased the lyrics to the track as they unveiled their new logo/album cover.
Speaking to The Sun, singer Claire Richards confirmed the new tune was written by Sia, sharing: “She wrote the track for herself but realised it wasn’t really for her and gave it to us.”
“It’s not like it was in the bottom of a drawer somewhere. It was her who said, ‘We should give this to Steps because it would really suit them’.”
Lisa Scott-Lee added: “It has got back to us that she is a Steps fan and also that she has Steps on her playlists, which is great.” And of the track’s dance routine, she shared: “We’ve got an amazing dance routine, a really good one.”
Meanwhile, Faye Tozer teased the forthcoming record, hinting: “The album is a little bit more intimate, which is fitting for the times because we can’t go out and jump around together quite yet.
“It’s a little bit more reflective and feels a bit more personal.”
Claire agreed: “There’s much more of a mixture, with a nod to Steps back in the day.”
Also returning to the fold is pop songwriter Karl Twigg, who provided songs for their first three albums, including One For Sorrow, Deeper Shade of Blue and Stomp.
H said: “His track on the album is one of my favourites. I love that it’s ’80s inspired.”
In addition to the new album, the group is embarking on a 2021 14-date UK arena Tour. Tickets are on sale now.
